COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--- University of New Mexico junior Jennifer Williams was named Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week as announced today by the conference office. The award is her first of the season and fourth of Williams' career. It is the second MWC award of the season for the Lobos.
"It's an honor, and I have to credit it to the team," Williams said. "I didn't do it alone. My teammates gave me the ball and it was a great win for us."
Williams, a product of Moreno Valley, Calif., recorded the second hat trick of her career to lead New Mexico to a conference-opening 4-0 victory against UNLV last Friday night in Las Vegas. She netted three goals, all in the second half, and added an assist to finish the contest with seven points. Williams' previous hat trick came on Aug. 30, 2009, when she found the back of the net three times and had two assists in a 6-2 victory over Illinois State on the same field in Las Vegas, Nev.
The Lobos return home for their first home game in more than a month this Saturday as they host San Diego State at 5 p.m. at the UNM Soccer Complex.
