ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico softball team finished the three game series against Evansville with a run rule 9-1 victory on Sunday. The Lobos are 2-1 after their first weekend series.
Freshman Kyla Nelson took the rubber for her second game. She gave up just one unearned run and only one free pass. Nelson collected two strikeouts earning her first collegiate win for a 1-1 record.
New Mexico's offensive brought its bats and running shoes to the field. The Lobos collected nine runs on 12 hits including four extra base hits and two homeruns. They scored two runs in each of the first three innings and three in the fourth.
Freshman Tianna George led the charge going 2-3 knocking in three runs and went long.
Redshirt freshman Kim Holyfield also hit one over the fence sending two runs across the plate.
Another redshirt freshman, Gabriella Parra was perfect on the day with three hits in as many trips to the plate.
Up next, New Mexico will head to Alabama to play in the Alabama Tournament. First up is Georgia Tech on Friday at 1 p.m. CT. Then the Lobos take on Alabama at 4 p.m. CT on Friday before entering bracket play.
