TCU vs. New Mexico Feb. 24, 2009

New Mexico head coach Steve Alford:

Opening Statements:
"It was a very good game for us. Jimmy (Christian) had his team well prepared. I thought TCU played really hard. I didn't like our focus in the first half, but we responded in the second half. In the second half, our seniors really came to the forefront."

On motivating the players:
"I have to be the jockey and do the kicking and whipping. I just thought our guys were a little slow with our pace and our flow. Our transition game in the second half was so much better. That's when we are at our best, when we're making defensive stops and running."

On key match-up:
"I thought Daniel (Faris) and Kevin (Langford) were going at it tonight. These two are really good centers in our league. Both got to the free throw line, and got into foul trouble against each other. When Daniel Faris can go down in the UNM record book for foul shooting, that's something that doesn't happen outside of college athletics. Daniel going 12 for 12 from the free throw line is very special."

Texas Christian University coach Jim Christian:

"It was a physical game. I mean both teams play with a pretty physical style. We haven't figured out how to play on the road with composure during key stretches. We commit double fouls and silly fouls we don't need to be committing.

Offensively, when we stayed with what we are trying to do, we had success tonight. Then at key stretches we just lose composure and try to do things we just can't do."

"You can't give good teams in this league that many chances. They were solid and fundamental so they kept getting good shots. We got out of rhythm and did things we aren't supposed to do."
