First week back in school...
After two weeks of preseason, we have finally returned to the student-athlete mode. We had our Cherry-Silver Scrimmage on Saturday where we played each other and later that evening we played the Alumni. It was fun to play against Jeanne (Fairchild) and Sarah (Kwasigroch), but even more fun to continue the tradition of beating the Alumni in all 4 games! It was really good to see that all of our hard work is starting to pay off, but we were reminded that this is just the beginning.
On Sunday all of the athletes attended a back to school BBQ in Johnson Gym where there were a couple of speakers to talk about the great opportunities that all of us athletes have by being Lobos. It was good to see all of the other athletes and see what a great group of people we have supporting us during our college careers.
We have all started our fall classes and started to get into a rhythm with school and volleyball. After our first scrimmages on Saturday, we had the day off on Sunday, which let our bodies recover from the previous two weeks of hard work in the gym and weight room. We had weight lifting as a team on Monday after our first day of school and had the rest of the afternoon to make any changes we needed to our schedules and get books from the bookstore.
Tuesday we had a quick weight room session and went straight to practice. It included one round of plyometrics, our jump training, a lot of blocking for the hitters, and a lot of passing for our defensives specialists. After practice, we took what felt like our 100th ice bath and all headed home to get some homework done.
I went to Hope Christian High School to watch a couple of the girls I coached during the club season play their first home volleyball game, and it was a lot of fun to see them and see how they have improved even since our club season. These girls all came to our scrimmage on Saturday and I promised them that if they supported the Lobos, I would come and support them during their seasons! They are awesome at cheering for our team and we love having them at our games!!
Wednesday included just classes and practice, where we fine tuned our rotations and played against each other.
Thursday was another day of practice after our 4th day in school and involved a lot of passing, defense, and playing. I think that all of us are starting to get back into the school and volleyball mode and are all very excited for this weekend!
Many of us have parents and other family coming to support us in our first game and are all looking forward to seeing all of our fans come back to support us this season!!
We start it all off on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. vs. Delaware and continue the tournament Saturday with Portland State at 1 p.m. and UC Santa Barbara at 7:30 p.m.
