Sophomore Kate Wyrick scored the lone goal of the match in the forty-third minute to lead the Silver team over the Cherry team tonight at the UNM Soccer Complex. Wyrick received an excellent pass from freshman Zaneta Wyne and fired her shot toward the back post for the score.
"It was really good soccer out there today. When both teams are pretty equal you know you are a deep team," head coach Kit Vela said, "I thought we did some really good things. We have a lot of room to continue to get better and that's good that's where we should be."
Before Wyrick's goal both teams put on a defensive showcase. The Cherry teams back line of seniors Samantha Bevis and Krista Peterson, junior Jess Quador and sophomore Elizabeth Lambert only allowed three shots in the first half and only five total. The four used their size and experience to muscle the younger Silver team around the box.
While the Silver team got the only goal of the match the Cherry team lead in every category and just missed tying the game on several occasions.
