UNM vs. North Texas *** The Pit, Albuquerque, N.M.

  • New Mexico defeats North Texas by a score of 81-59 in the opening round of the Lobos' Thanksgiving Tournament in The Pit in Albuquerque, N.M. ... New Mexico will play No. 9 Georgia tomorrow at 7 p.m. MT ... Georgia defeated St. Bonaventure 84-48 earlier in the day.
  • The Lobos opened the game on an 11-0 run. New Mexico held North Texas scoreless until the 16:28 mark of the first half. UNT responded with an 11-2 run to come within two points at the second media timeout (11:23).
  • North Texas took a 19-17 lead at the 10:10 mark with a Sara Stanley layup. It was UNT's only lead of the contest.
  • New Mexico posted a 9-2 run to take a 39-32 lead before UNT's Laura McCoy hit a half-court three-point basket at the buzzer to close the gap to 39-35 at the half.
  • After a three point basket by North Texas to open the second half at 39-35, New Mexico recorded a 17-4 run to take a 56-42 lead at the under-12 timeout.
  • Similar to the first half, the Lobos closed the half on a 9-2 run to win 81-59.
  • New Mexico's 39 points in the first half are the most points by the Lobos in the opening period since scoring 41 vs. Houston in a 70-44 win on Jan. 2, 2012.

  • New Mexico's 81 points scored in the game are the most points by the Lobos since scoring 86 vs. Colorado State in an 86-53 victory on Feb. 12, 2011.
  • New Mexico's 50 rebounds are the most in a game since grabbing 50 in a game vs. Eastern New Mexico on Nov. 22, 2011.
  • New Mexico shot a season-best 50.8 percent from the field on 31-of-61 shooting ... The previous high was 46.2 percent vs. New Mexico State on Nov. 20.
  • New Mexico tied a season high in three-point shooting percentage, hitting threes at a 37.5 percent clip on 6-of-16 shooting ... The Lobos also shot that line (6-of-16, 37.5%) vs. Texas Tech on Nov. 15.
  • Shot 13-of-22 from the free-throw line for 59.1 percent ... The Lobos have shot below 60 percent from the charity stripe three of their five games in 2012.
  • New Mexico is 5-0 for the first time since the 1996-97 season, when the Lobos opened up with a 9-0 record.

  • With the win, New Mexico improved to 2-3 all-time vs. North Texas (L at home in 1993; L in Denton, Texas in 1995; W at home in 1998; W at home in 2008; L in Denton, Texas in 2011)
