COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State sophomore Ashley Munoz and New Mexico senior righthander Kelly Ninemire have been named Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
Ninemire, a Prosper, Texas, native, went 3-0 last weekend in the New Mexico Classic. She posted a 0.86 ERA in 16 1/3 innings of work. Ninemire started game one vs. Wright State on Friday, pitching 6 2/3 innings, while allowing just two runs off of six hits and striking out seven. On Saturday, she came in relief against Wright State and Georgetown. Against the Hoyas, Ninemire pitched the final four innings, allowing a run and two hits, en route to the win. Over the weekend, she earned 23 total strikeouts, allowed three runs and only one walk.
Munoz, from Diamond Bar, Calif., batted .556 with five hits, two doubles, two home runs and four RBI in the three-game series with Utah State. The sophomore hit her first homerun of the weekend with two outs in the bottom of the first inning of the series opener. Her performance put the Rams ahead, 2-0, against the Aggies. She hit her second homerun in her first at-bat in the last game of the weekend. Munoz hit two doubles in game two, the first coming in the third inning and the second in the sixth inning. Overall on the season, Munoz is batting .415 in 16 starts. She has 22 hits, four doubles, three home runs and nine RBI. In the field, Munoz has recorded a .986 fielding percentage with 65 putouts and eight assists.
