POSTGAME QUOTES

UNM Head Coach Rocky Long
(On the Lobos' play in the fourth quarter)
"I don't explain it. I think we're a young football team and we made enough mistakes to go around. I'm proud of the way the football team played. I thought we played harder than they did. We were just as physical as they were. I thought we matched their speed. You can't get a punt blocked and you can't throw interceptions close to your goal line and expect to win. They had one drive the whole game and they took advantage of it. The most inexcusable thing was getting a punt blocked and that was the difference in the game. We didn't make the plays, they did."

(On the play of your defense)
"Going into the game I thought we could play pretty good defense, but I didn't think we'd play that good. I'm proud of the way the guys played. That's a BCS team that's won 10 games in a row and I actually thought we played better than they did. We just made too many mistakes."

UNM Sophomore QB Kole McKamey
(On his first career start)
"There's a good side and a bad side. We played hard, we never gave up, we played physical. The interceptions cost us the football game. That's the thing about playing quarterback - you win, you get all the good news, you lose, well, that's just part of the job. We have to regroup. We have Texas Tech next week, a real good football team. We'll just try to get over the first game as fast as we can. We hit some real big plays tonight, but we have to bounce back next week."

UNM Senior CB Brandon Payne
(On the Lobos' defensive performance)
"I felt we had a great game, but people make mistakes. We need to work a little harder, stop giving up big plays. I felt I had a good game, but I made a few mistakes. I can make up for those next week when we play Texas Tech."

UNM Junior TB DonTrell Moore
(On the team's performance)
"We did a lot of good things tonight. We are a good football team, but we made some mistakes we shouldn't have made. Sometimes that's the way the football bounces. We'll build on it, we have a lot of things that we can grow from, a lot of things we can get better at. I don't see this performance as a positive or a negative. We'll just do what we need to do to get ready for Texas Tech next week."

(On his performance)
"It was all right. I felt like I could do a little bit more, but it's early in the season and we still have a lot of football to play."
