The University of New Mexico women's golf team is in 11th place after the first round of the Wildcat Invitational being played in Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico. The Lobos shot a 21-over 309 on the par-72, 6,146-yard Nicklaus Legacy Course at the Peninsula Golf Club.

New Mexico trails first-round leader UCLA by 22 shots. The top-ranked Bruins have an 8-shot lead over Arizona State. Oklahoma State and Tulane share fourth place in a 17-team field that features nine teams ranked in the top-25.

UNM junior Jodi Ewart was her usual steady self, shooting an even-par 72. She is tied for sixth place with Tulane's Ashley McKenney and UCLA's Maria Jose Uribe.

Arizona State's Juliana Murcia has the individual lead at 5-under 67. She has a 2-stroke lead over Pia Halbig from California and UCLA's Stephanie Kono.

UNM senior Morgan Grantham is tied for 45th at 6-over 78. Senior Mikaela Backstedt shot a 79 and is tied for 55th. Freshmen Sarah Salvo and Rebecca Hellbom shot 80 and 82, respectively.
