SAN MARCOS, Texas - A four-run 10th inning earned the New Mexico baseball team a 7-3 win over Texas State this afternoon in San Marcos, Texas. The Lobos, 2-1 overall, rallied from a 2-1 defecit in the seventh to take the lead before the Bobcats tied the game in ninth with two outs.

Texas State scored first with two runs in the first inning. Luke Cannon's RBI single brought in Thomas Field and then scored on a fielder's choice hit into by Kyle Jones.

Junior left fielder Jay Russell put the Lobos on the board in the fourth, leading off with a single up the middle. Russell stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a sacrifice fly to center field from junior first baseman Chris Carlson.

The Lobos tied the score at 2-2 in the seventh as sophomore third baseman Ian Hollick laid down a bunt single to the pitcher that allowed freshman Derek Pilkington, who was pinch running for junior designated hitter Daniel Stovall, to score. Hollick tried to steal second in the next at bat, allowing junior center fielder Matt Foote time to score, giving UNM the lead.

But in the bottom of the ninth with runners are first and third and just one out, Dawid Bednarek laid down a sac bunt, bringing home Jones for the game-tying run. With two outs, Cody Ross singled through the right side to extend the inning but Pat Crumpton flied out to senior Brandon Bingham in left field to send the game to extra innings.

Senior shortstop Ryan Barba singled up the middle in the 10th to reclaim the lead for New Mexico. Hollick scored on Barba's single after leading off the inning with a walk. The Bobcats intentionally walked sophomore second baseman Jordan Pacheco to load the bases. Two batters later, Carlson drew a walk on four straight pitches, picking up the RBI as sophomore catcher Drew McDonald scored, pushing the lead to two runs.

Pilkington took four straight pitches in the next at bat, bringing home Barba. Foote followed with an infield single that allowed Pacheco to score the fourth and final run of the inning.

Trying to thwart defeat for the second straight inning, Field led off with a single up the middle. But that was all the Bobcats could muster, recording three consecutive outs to end the game.

Freshman Chace Lankford earned his first collegiate win, throwing 1.2 innings, allowing two hits with one strikeout. Senior Darren Coltrinari started the game for New Mexico, going 6.1 innings. Coltrinari gave up six hits, two runs and one walk while striking out four. Junior Damon Miller also saw 2.0 innings of relief.

Chris Hill suffered the loss for Texas State in a one-hit, 2.2 inning performance. Bobcat starter Ryan Bennett lasted 6.1 innings for two hits, three runs and two walks while striking out six.

Texas State out-hit New Mexico (9-6) but had trouble bringing runners home, stranding seven on base. Six different Lobos recorded hits, including a double from Pacheco. Carlson racked up two RBIs while four others each had one.

Field and Cody Merrell led the Bobcats at the plate, going 2-for-3. Cannon was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
