SAN DIEGO, Calif.-- The University of New Mexico women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to the San Diego State Aztecs this afternoon at the SDSU Sports desk. True freshman Sinead Fleming scored the Lobos' lone goal of the match. The Lobos fall to 11-4-2 on the season and 3-3-0 in Mountain West Conference play. The Aztecs improve to 10-3-5 and 3-0-2 in MWC play.
"We came out real flat," said head coach Kit Vela. "We gave up two real soft goals early on and had to come from behind. We didn't start out with much emotion but we finished strong. We will learn from this and do our best at Fullerton on Sunday."
Fleming put away a header off a corner kick for her first career goal. Fleming is one of three true freshmen to score goals this season for the Lobos. Sophomore Jennifer Williams served up the corner kick for Fleming. The assist was her seventh of the season, which ranks tied for fourth all-time at UNM for assists in a single season.
The Lobos head north to Fullerton, Calif., on Sunday to take on Cal State Fullerton at 2 p.m. MT. For more information, visit www.GoLobos.com.
