The University of New Mexico swim team competed in the 2008 Ft. Lauderdale Rough Water Swim hosted by the International Swimming Hall of Fame on Saturday, Jan. 5. Jaclyn Fedors won the ocean mile swim with a time of 21:02.

"It was a fun swim!" said head coach Tracy Ljone. "The waves were between 3-5 feet swells, so it made it very interesting and tough. Ocean water swimming is a completely different ball game than swimming in a pool. You have to deal with waves, rain, wind and all those animals in the sea!!"

Four other Lobos' finished within the top-30. Sally Bellinger finished 11th with a time of 23:58, followed in 19th-place by Tori Clarridge (25:22), 23rd by Carly Hilo (25:34), and 26th by Sara Kelley (25:37).

The Lobos return to competition on Friday, Jan. 18 when they will take on UNLV and Wyoming in Las Vegas at 3 and 5pm.
