Softball Signs New Mexico High School Player of the Year

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - University of New Mexico softball coach Kim Newbern announced the signing of Gabriella Parra to a National Letter-of-Intent today. Parra was the 2005 New Mexico Gatorade State Player of the Year at West Mesa High School in Albuquerque. Parra will join incoming freshmen Katie Gilmore (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Sara Loeffelholz (Omaha, Neb.) and Tori Rogers (Overland Park, Kan.) as members of the Lobo softball program in the fall.

Gabriella Parra, a pitcher/1B/3B/OF, joins the Lobos from West Mesa High School. Parra is 22-2 this season with a 1.17 ERA and 228 strikeouts. She has also posted 14 shutouts, two no-hitters and a perfect game in 2006. At the plate Parra is hitting .512 with three homeruns and 24 RBI.
