New Mexico women's soccer head coach Kit Vela announced its 2008 soccer schedule Monday. The schedule includes five NCAA tournament teams from last season and three of the five matches will be on the road. UNM looks to continue the winning tradition established over the last three years and will play nine home matches this season. With 13 returning letterwinners and the biggest and possibly the best recruiting class in school history it should make for an exciting season of Lobo women's soccer. The 2008 season will feature some of the best opponents in the country. New Mexico opens the season on the road at Denver on Aug 22.
The Lobos will return home for a six-match home stand starting with Northern Arizona on Aug. 24 and Baylor on Aug. 29. New Mexico will then host two tournaments. The UNM Classic will be showcased on Sept. 5-9 as the Lobos host Drake on Sept. 5 and Hawai'i on Sept 9. The Nike Invitational will be held on Sept. 12-14. Wisconsin-Milwaukee will come to town on Sept. 12 and Fairleigh Dickinson will visit on Sept. 14. The Lobos hit the road for two tournaments with the first being hosted by NCAA tournament semifinalist UCLA. The Bruins will host the UCLA Women's Cup, New Mexico will serve as the home team against San Diego on Sept. 19 and will play host UCLA on Sept. 21. Northern Arizona will host the 4th Annual High Altitude Tournament where the Lobos will play Utah Valley State on Sept. 26 and Central Arkansas on Sept. 28.
Conference play begins on Oct. 5 with a visit to TCU. UNM will continue on the road with a trip to Air Force on Oct.10 and a journey north to face Wyoming on Oct. 12. The Lobos have a three-match home stand against Utah on Oct. 16, NCAA tournament qualifier BYU on Oct. 18 and San Diego State on Oct. 24. The Lobos end the season at UNLV on Oct. 31. The conference tournament will also be hosted by UNLV from Nov. 5-8.
