ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The doubleheader originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 6 between the New Mexico Softball team (25-18) and Eastern New Mexico has now been changed to a single game starting at 3 p.m. at Lobo Field.
The New Mexico softball team enjoyed an undefeated weekend at home Oct. 18th and 19th as it hosted the the Zias of Eastern New Mexico for two games.
On the 18th, New Mexico won 4-0. Getting the win was junior transfer Ashley Perkins. In her debut as a Lobo, Perkins gave up only two hits and walked one while striking out three. Dumas earned her second save of the day behind five strikeouts.
Offensively for the Lobos, senior left fielder Jen Sena went 2-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Junior shortstop Kelli Edelbrock also had a good showing in her first appearance as a Lobo, going 2-3 with a single, triple and one run scored.
The bats were swinging on Sunday as the Lobos won 14-0. Sophomore first baseman Ashley Shartzer hit a three-run homerun in the first to help give the Lobos and early 7-0 lead at the end of the first.
Ogas again proved invaluable on the mound and at the plate. She was 3-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Ogas got the win as well, giving up no hits or walks and striking out five.
The Zias, playing Division II athletics, are currently 9-23 overall. They recently played the 16th-ranked Texas Woman's College, losing all four. They were scheduled to play two games against Abilene Christian in Abilene, Texas this weekend but the series had to be moved to Sunday and Monday due to weather. Results for Sunday's game was unavailable.
The Lobos' were also affected by the poor weather that hit the area over the weekend. Their conference opener against Colorado State was cancelled due to poor field conditions that resulted from the heavy rain dumped on the city. Tomorrow's game will be the first for the Lobos in nine days. It is the longest break they have had all season.
