Game Notes: New Mexico at Utah Get Acrobat Reader

The University of New Mexico women's basketball team returns to the road for two games against Utah and UNLV. The Lobos will play the Utes at 5 p.m. on Saturday in Salt Lake City, Utah. The game against Utah will be broadcast live on CBS College Sports, which can be seen on Comcast channel 37, DirecTV channel 603 and Dish Network channel 151. The Lobos will play the Rebels in Las Vegas, Nev. at 8 p.m. on Feb. 23. GameTracker will be provided for both games on GoLobos.com. The games can also be heard live on 610 AM The Sports Animal and on GoLobos.com. New Mexico will have three games left in the season after the UNLV game before the Conference Tournament on Mar. 8-12.

New Mexico fell to San Diego State on Tuesday, 50-44 in The Pit for "Think Pink" night. Tuesday's game was also coach Flanagan's 500th collegiate game as head coach for the Lobos. New Mexico suffered from poor shooting against San Diego State, shooting 22.6 percent on the floor for its lowest mark this season. The Lobos were able to hold the Aztecs to shooting only 7.7 percent (1-13) from long range and 29.8 percent (17-57) on the floor. Freshman Jasmine Patterson led all scorers with 10 points, while senior Amanda Best led all players on the boards with 14 rebounds. Porche Torrance had 11 rebounds and a career-high five blocked shots for the Lobos. Freshman Morgan Toben added nine points for New Mexico off of three 3-pointers.

SCOUTING UTAH
The Utes enter Saturday's game with a 12-14 record this season and a 5-7 record in conference action after losing to Wyoming on Feb. 16, 59-50. Utah is currently riding a three-game losing streak, with close losses to BYU, 61-58 on Feb. 12 and San Diego State, 50-49 on Feb. 9. Utah is shooting 39.5 percent on the floor and 33.0 percent from long range this season.

In Utah's game at Wyoming, sophomore Iwalani Rodrigues led all scorers with 21 points, which included hitting 5-of-10 from long range. Michelle Harrison led all players on the boards with 11 rebounds on Wednesday. Rodrigues leads the Utes in scoring this season with 14.5 points a game. Freshman Michelle Plouffe leads Utah on the boards, grabbing 7.4 rebounds a game. Junior Janita Badon runs the offense for the Utes with 5.6 assists. Plouffe and Badon also score in double figures averaging 13.5 and 12.3 points a game, respectively.

SERIES INFORMATION
Saturday's game against the Utes will be the 70th meeting between the two teams. Utah currently leads the all-time series against New Mexico, 51-18 and has won the past nine games played since Jan. 23, 2008. The Lobos fell to the Utes, 56-53 earlier in the season on Jan. 19 in The Pit.

LAST TIME AGAINST UTAH
New Mexico fell to Utah, 56-53 in The Pit on Jan. 19. The Lobos started out sluggish in the first half shooting 22.2 percent on the floor against the Utes. Despite its poor shooting in the first half, New Mexico improved its shooting in the second half, making 42.1 percent on the floor and 50 percent from long range. Junior Lauren Taylor led all scorers with 21 points, which included a career-high 13 free throws. Freshman Jasmine Patterson added 11 points for the Lobos. Junior Porche Torrance had a career-high five steals and added three blocks on defense.

BLOCK PARTY
This season the Lobos have two players in the top-10 all-time on the UNM records book for career blocked shots. Senior Jessica Kielpinski is seventh with 79 career blocks, while junior Porche Torrance is ninth with 68 career blocks. Torrance is also tied for seventh all-time in blocked shots in a season with 41 blocks this season. Torrance had a career-high five blocked shots against San Diego State on Feb. 15 to move her up three spots on the all-time list for blocks in a season. Torrance also ranks fourth in the conference and 79th in the nation in blocked shots this season.

KEY STAT
New Mexico is 0-11 this season when it is out-rebounded by its opponent. The Lobos average only 36.3 rebounds a game when they lose, while their opponents average 42.1 rebounds a game; however, when the Lobos win they average 43.9 rebounds a game, while their opponents average only 36.2 rebounds a game. New Mexico is 9-3 when it out-rebounds its opponents this season.

FLANAGAN REACHES MILESTONE
The Lobos' game on Feb. 15 marked an impressive milestone for head coach Don Flanagan. That milestone was coaching his 500th collegiate basketball game for the Lobos. Flanagan is currently in his 16th season and boasts a 336-164 (.672) record at New Mexico. Flanagan reached his 500th game in The Pit on Feb. 15 against San Diego State on "Think Pink" night.

LOBOS ON TV
The Lobos are 1-5 this season when their games are broadcast on television. The Lobos beat Rio Grande Rival New Mexico State, 58-49 on Dec. 1 in Las Cruces. The Aggie game was televised live on Aggie Vision. New Mexico was beaten by Arizona, 84-60 on Dec. 7 in The Pit, with that game being televised live on The Mtn. Network. The Lobos fell to Wyoming, 63-53 on Jan. 8. New Mexico fell to San Diego State, 56-53 on Jan. 15. The Lobos fell to Wyoming, 78-65 on Feb. 8. In its most recent television game, New Mexico was beaten by San Diego State, 50-44 on "Think Pink" night in The Pit.

HOT SHOTS
The Lobos shot a season-high 53.3 percent on the floor on Feb. 12 in their win over Colorado State. That was only the second time New Mexico has shot over 50 percent in a game this season. The Lobos shot 52.2 percent on the floor in their win against Air Force on Feb. 2. In New Mexico's three conference wins this season, the Lobos have shot 47.9 percent on the floor and have averaged 71.1 points a game.
