COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. - Senior Becca Barras has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Diver of the Week while Air Force sophomore Lauren White was honored as the Swimmer of the Week. This is the first career weekly honor for White and the 10th for Barras.
Barras, from Kitchener, Ontario, swept both diving events in a dual-meet vs. Wyoming and at the Early Bird Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo., last week. Against Wyoming, she tallied a score of 261.00 in the 1-meter and a score of 288.60 in the 3-meter. On the 1-meter board, she finished over 23 points ahead of the second place finisher and on the 3-meter board, Becca finished more than 29 points ahead of her nearest competitor. At the Early Bird Invite, Barras scored 253.80 in the 1-meter and 421.15 in the 3-meter, completing her weekend sweep. She outscored her closest opponent by 47 points on the 3-meter board and won by more than 36 points on the 1-meter board.
White, an Elizabethtown, Pa., product, helped Air Force to a 3-1 record at the Sun Belt Classic in Las Cruces, N.M. last week, with three individual first-place finishes, along with a second and third-place individual finish. On Friday, she started the meet clocking a career-best mark of 10:26.25 in the 1000-yard freestyle (seventh fastest time in AFA history), and followed with a victory in the 500-yard freestyle (5:11.67). White concluded her first day of competition with a thirdplace finish in the 400-yard individual medley (4:46.71). She began the final day of competition with another 500 free victory (5:12.10) and followed with a second-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle, clocking in at 17:55.56.
Barras and the Lobos return to action Nov. 4, hosting BYU, Northern Arizona and San Diego State for a meet at 6 p.m. UNM will also host the Lobo Invitational Nov. 5-6.
