ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 23 University of New Mexico women's basketball team will play host to the Southwest Airlines Lobo Shootout this Friday and Saturday. The Lobos will play the Sam Houston State Bearkats in the opening round on Friday at approximately 8:00 PM, with the first game of the evening between the UCLA Bruins and the Delaware State Hornets beginning at 6:00 PM. UNM is 6-2 on the season and has won five consecutive games, while SHSU is 3-4 this year. All games will be available on gametracker and the UNM game will be live on 610 AM and streamed on www.golobos.com.

TONIGHT'S GAME: Tonight's game features the Lobos of the University of New Mexico playing host to the Bearkats of Sam Houston State University in the first round of the Southwest Airlines Lobo Shootout. The tournament sponsor is Southwest Airlines along with Friday's game sponsor Magic 99.5 FM and Saturday's game sponsor 96.3 The Buzzard.

SCOUTING THE LOBOS: New Mexico is 6-2 this season with victories over Florida Atlantic (74-44), No. 25 Texas (63-60), Georgia Southern (64-43), Siena (78-39), New Mexico State (81-47) and at Arizona (76-63) and losses to No. 12/13 Arizona State (67-49) and Nebraska (66-59). UNM is led in scoring by senior Julie Briody at 17.4 ppg and rebounding by junior Brandi Kimble at 6.6 rpg. Leading the Lobos in assists is senior Katie Montgomery and freshman Amy Beggin at 2.9 apg.

SCOUTING THE BEARKATS: Sam Houston State comes into tonight's game 3-4 with a wins over Texas Southern (81-65), LSU-Shreveport (65-56) and Wiley (97-76) and losses to SMU (84-50), Texas (84-56), Rice (91-48) and Baylor (117-50). The Bearkats are led in scoring and rebounding by Whitney Smith at 9.7 ppg 6.3 rpg. The leading passer is Erica Parker at 3.3 apg.

THE COACHES: UNM is led by head coach Don Flanagan who enters his 12th season at New Mexico. Flanagan is 245-106 at UNM. The Bearkats are led by Brenda Welch-Nichols who is in her first season at Sam Houston State and fourth season overall with a record of 54-66.
