COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico men's tennis senior Miles Bugby was named the Mountain West Conference player of the week by the conference office today. Bugby went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles play last weekend as the Lobos kicked off conference play with two wins.
This is the first time Bugby has garnered MWC player of the week honors, but the fifth this season for UNM, including three weeks in a row.
A senior from West Chilington, England, Bugby was integral in No. 36 New Mexico's victories at Air Force (6-1) and vs. No. 65 UNLV (5-2). At No. 3 singles, Bugby tallied three-set victories over Air Force's Taylor Soster (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) and UNLV's Mehdi Bouras (6-3, 6-7 [4-7], 6-3). He also teamed with Johnny Parkes at No. 1 doubles to defeat Air Force's Austin Francis and Cody Hall (8-4) and UNLV's 79th-ranked duo of Elliot Wronski and Luca Barlocchi (8-5).
Bugby is 11-2 in spring singles at the No. 3 position and 13-2 in doubles this spring.
The Lobos face No. 23 Boise State on Sunday, April 5, at 1 p.m. in Boise, Idaho.
