University of New Mexico seniors Jason Barkemeyer and Mark Johnson were each voted 2004 first team CoSIDA Academic All-District VI selections the College Sports Information Directors of America announced today. Barkemeyer (Belen, N.M.) earned his B.S. in Chemistry (3.75 GPA), while Johnson (Fontana, Wisc.) wrapped up his MBA (4.0 graduate GPA) in just his fourth year.

Barkemeyer wrapped up his stellar Lobo career last weekend at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships, competing in both the shot put and discus for the second-straight year. Johnson, meanwhile, tied for ninth in the pole vault at the regional meet and will make his NCAA Championship debut on June 11 when he competes in the first five events of the decathlon.

The two stalwart seniors have logged 86 and 163 event competitions, respectively, in their four-year careers and will have also earned Academic All-MWC honors four times when the list is announced later this summer. Johnson was a second team Academic All-District VI selection last year.

New Mexico, Rice and Tulsa were the only schools to place two athletes on the All-District VI first team.
