Gainsville, Fla. - The final day at the ITA Indoor Playoffs ended in a close match against #33 University of Miami resulting in a 4-3 loss for the Lobos.
The fight for victory in the third position was a close one for the Lobos as Carl Ho and James Hignett clawed for every point against Tsukamoto/Mauz. The University of Miami got the better of them as they won the match in a tiebreak finishing with a score of 9-8.
The Lobos didn't let the loss of doubles deter them as they kept on fighting in singles winning two out of three matches that finished in the third set.
Jadon Phillips played the first position against Omar Aly winning the match with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
Ben Dunbar was making a comeback in the second set against Wifredo Gonzalez but Gonzalez stopped him winning the match 6-1, 7-5.
Phil Anderson took on Henrique Tsukamoto in the third position with the match lasting three sets. Tsukamoto ended up winning the match 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 in a very tight finish.
Conor Berg faced Victor Mauz in the fourth slot going also to three sets. The first set went to UNM with the score of 6-4. The second set was not as fortunate for the Lobos as Mauz won the set 6-2. It was now onto the third set and Conor Berg only allowed Mauz to win only one game as he blew past him finishing the set 6-1. Conor Berg won the match for UNM with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
Carl Ho played against Diego Soto in the number five position but was only able to gain three games per set. Soto won the match 6-3, 6-3.
Mads Hegelund faced Mark Schanerman with the match ending in three sets. Schanerman won the first set 6-3. Mads Hegelund finished him off clinching the next two sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2. The final match score was a UNM win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
The Lobos will playing this weekend against Colorado State-Pueblo and Western New Mexico on February 4th at the Linda Estes Tennis Complex in Albuquerque, N.M.
