UTAH STATE VS. NEW MEXICO
University Stadium - Albuquerque, N.M.
New Mexico Head Coach Rocky Long
(On the large margin of victory): "I thought we could do that. Obviously I wasn't sure if we could or not, but I thought if our offense moved the ball and the defense played like it has been the last couple of weeks, that we could win a game like that."
(On DonTrell Moore's performance): " I thought he ran the ball pretty well. I was still a little disappointed in some of the running plays, I didn't think we blocked them very well at times. He made a lot of people miss and when people got blocked he got it up the field. If we can run the ball like that, we can move the ball, and if we can't run it we have trouble moving it."
"I don't know if it's a confidence booster, but the players will enjoy their week off a lot more because of the win. I'm sure we will be a little more enthusiastic in practice than we would have been, so we will get a lot more out of the bye week."
(On Casey Kelly's performance): "I thought Casey played pretty well. I'm a quarterback's biggest critic, I want him to complete every pass. I don't know what his stats were, but he threw the ball well. Dwight Counter made a great catch and there were several throws for first downs that were very nice."
Utah State Head Coach Mick Dennehy
"Obviously, we were outplayed, we were out-coached. I just can't see or think about a lot that we really did well tonight. We appeared as if we were completely unprepared. The thing that concerns me the most is that our kids have always played hard, and I just don't think we played nearly as hard as we have in the past or as hard as we are capable of playing. Unless we do, this kind of result is going to occur. We need to find out why. We're thin and we've got some kids nicked up but there's still no excuse for the lack of effort. We're not good enough to just show up and play like we did tonight. I thought New Mexico played very well. We were outplayed from the kick-off to the final play and its very discouraging and disappointing."
New Mexico Defensive End Daniel Kegler
(On the defense's performance): "The defense played outstanding tonight. We started off playing hard, did what the coaches told us to do all week, and came out and made a bunch of plays."
New Mexico Quarterback Casey Kelly
(On the offense's performance): "I feel like offensively we had an intensity level that we haven't had the past few games. The offensive line did a great job, they came out and established the line of scrimmage. The bottom line is that football is about being physical and that's what established our whole attack."
(On the team's state of mind heading into the bye-week): This is a good win for us. Overall we got a good opportunity to prepare for San Diego State when we get back into conference."
