ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico ski team recently announced its 2009-10 schedule as it prepares to make another run at an NCAA title and the date of its annual fall golf tournament. The schedule includes Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association competition as well as several exhibition and training races during the preseason. The 7th Annual UNM Ski Team Golf Classic will be held Thursday, Sept. 24 at the UNM Championship Golf Course. Collegiate competition begins on Jan. 11-12 with Alpine races at the Utah Invitational in Park City, Utah. The Nordic portion of the meet will take place at Soldier Hollow, Utah on Jan. 22-23.
The second round of RMISA competition will take place Jan. 15-17 with the Montana State Invitational at Bohart Ranch/Bridger Bowl, Mont. The Alpine squads will also take an extra giant slalom run for NCAA qualifying while in Montana.
The Lobos will host the Jade Enterprises New Mexico Invitational on Feb. 5-6 with Alpine events at the Taos Ski Valley and Nordic races at Enchanted Forest in Red River, N.M. Friday races will be giant slalom and classical 5K/10K interval start, while Saturday will feature the slalom and freestyle 10K/10K interval races.
The regular season will wrap up at the Nevada Invitational in Auburn, Sugar Bowl and North Star, Nev. on Feb. 19-20 with an additional RMISA slalom qualifier on Feb. 21.
New Mexico will work to defend their 2009 NCAA West Regional/RMISA Championship title at the final NCAA qualifying races at the 2010 NCAA West Regional/RMISA Championships in Steamboat Springs, Colo., Feb. 26-27.
The University of Colorado will also host the 2010 NCAA National Championships on March 10-13 in Steamboat Springs, Colo.
Last season, New Mexico finished third in the nation with a first place showing by the Alpine squad led by two-time women's slalom national champion Malin Hemmingsson and women's giant slalom and slalom national runner-up Estelle Pecherand-Charmet.
