BOISE, Idaho---The University of New Mexico women's soccer team defeated Boise State 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Boas Soccer and Tennis Complex. The Lobos improved to 9-4-4 on the season and remain unbeaten in conference play with a record of 3-0-2.
In the 41st minute New Mexico's Rachel Montoya sent a ball into the center of the box from the left corner of the field. Natalie Jenks then collected the ball and found the back of the net from three yards out, propelling the Lobos to a 1-0 halftime lead.
With four and a half minutes remaining in the match, Jennifer Williams secured the victory for UNM as she received a through ball from Shelbie Luna, drawing the Bronco keeper out of the goal, and scored from 18-yards out. It was Williams 10th goal of the season.
"We did what we needed to do to come away with a win on the road," said head coach Kit Vela.
Jenks led the Lobos with six shots, four of which came on goal, in 70 minutes on the field. New Mexico outshot Boise State 20-6, logging 10 shots in each half.
In 90 minutes of action, New Mexico goalkeeper Kelli Cornell was credited with one save. The shutout was the eighth on the season for the Lobos.
The Lobos will conclude the regular season on Friday, Oct. 28th as they host TCU at 5 p.m. for Senior Day. It will be the final match at the UNM Soccer Complex before New Mexico hosts the Mountain West women's soccer championship Nov. 2-6. Tickets are available by calling (505) 925-LOBO.
