ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - After claiming its third consecutive Dick McGuire Invitational title last weekend, the New Mexico women's golf team moved up 19 spots to No. 6 in the latest Golf Week/Sagarin performance index ratings released Sept. 30. The Lobos set a new UNM Championship Course record at the Dick McGuire Invitational with a 54-hole score of 295-281-295-871 (-7) for the three-day tournament, placing first out of 17 teams. New Mexico became the first school in the history of the 25-year invitational to win the tournament three straight years.
Individually, five Lobos are ranked in the top 100. Freshman Ashley Rollins (Austin, Texas), who placed seventh at the McGuire, tops the list for UNM at No. 20. Junior preseason All-American Kailin Downs (Bend, Ore.) is ranked 31st, while junior Christina Spence (Port Alberni, British Columbia) is only three spots behind at No. 34. Junior Shannon Johnson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) is ranked 64th, the highest of her career, and senior Katrina Leckovic (Burnaby, British Columbia) is 71st.
The sixth-ranked Lobos return to action Oct. 17-19 at the Stanford/Pepsi Women's Intercollegiate in Palo Alto, Calif.
