SAN MARCOS, Texas --- The New Mexico baseball team improved to 6-0 on the season with an 11-1 win over Texas State on Friday night at Bobcat Field. Senior starter Bobby LaFromboise picked up his second win of the season (2-0), giving up only one hit and striking out seven over six innings.
"Bobby LaFromboise threw extremely well tonight and our offense continues to get better with each game," said Lobo head baseball coach Ray Birmingham. "Texas State is a very good team and this is a tough place to play."
For the sixth game in a row, senior catcher Drew McDonald got a hit in his first at-bat of the game with a single to shortstop in the second inning. First baseman Kevin Atkinson hit a double two batters later, followed by a double to center by right fielder Brian Cavazos-Galvez to drive in McDonald and Atkinson.
Shortstop Scott Gracey scored his first of three runs in the top of the fourth, hitting a double then scoring on a Brownstein single. Gracey's other two runs came in the top of the sixth and the seventh.
Senior Matt Hibbitts extended his current hitting streak to 19 games with two singles in the game. Brownstein and Atkinson led the Lobos with three hits each of the team's 16.
Texas State (3-2) scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh, a solo home run by Jerry Cervantes, after the Lobos had built an 11-0 lead.
Mike Hart (0-1) took the loss for the Bobcats.
The two teams return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. (MST) in San Marcos.
