The 2004 New Mexico volleyball team began UNM's rise in the Mountain West Conference and built a strong foundation for the program's continuing success in the future. The Lobos improved on last season's win total by five matches, upping their total to nine victories, including three in MWC action. The team finished the season with a 9-17 record and was seventh in the competitive Mountain West standings with a 3-11 mark.
New Mexico was once again thin on experience with only two seniors on the roster. The rest of the team, which featured three juniors, two sophomores and four freshmen, stayed competitive throughout the entire season in building a solid core for 2005.
