ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico senior Dionne Marsh recorded a team-high 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lobos to a 63-54 victory over San Diego State Wednesday evening inside The Pit. The double-double was Marsh's second of the season as the Lobos improve to 13-10 overall and 5-5 in the Mountain West Conference. San Diego State's Jene Morris lead all scorers with 22 points as the Aztecs fall to 13-9 overall and 4-6 in the MWC.
The Aztecs jumped out to a quick 8-1 lead over the first four minutes with five fast points from senior Shanna Davis. The seven-point lead was San Diego State's largest of the game. San Diego State lost their lead when Georonika Jackson hit an open three near the baseline that tied the game at 8-8 at the 14:04 mark. New Mexico countered with a 13-2 run to pull to a 13-10 lead with 11:48 remaining in the first half. The Aztecs finished the half outscoring the Lobos 15-12 as they took a mere 26-25 lead into the half.
New Mexico scored seven straight points to start the second half, holding the Aztecs scoreless until 16:04 left in the game and building a 32-26 lead. New Mexico managed a 37-34 lead at the 12:37 mark in the second half before rattling off a 24-4 run to open up their biggest lead 59-42 with 2:09 remaining.
New Mexico travels to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on the TCU Lady Frogs, Sunday, Feb. 17. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. on The Mtn. Fans can also follow the game on GoLobos.com.
