Black Team Takes Game Two In Nine

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Black team took a 2-0 lead in the World Series with a 13-8 win over the Red team.

Senior Ryan Barba gave the Red team an early 1-0 lead in the second inning with a sacrifice fly that drove home junior Daniel Stovall, who led off the inning with a triple.

Freshman Jared Hood got the run back in the top of the third, leading off with a walk. Hood then stole second and scored on a single from freshman Chad Itokazu. One inning later the red team put six more runs on the board for a 7-1 lead.

The Red team scored four more runs, getting two in the fourth, one in the sixth and one in the eight but it wasn't enough as the Black team put together a six-run ninth inning. Junior Chris Dabbs belted a three-run home run in the ninth.

Junior Chris Carlson and freshman Max Willett both went 3-for-5 for the Black team with two doubles and two RBI. Sophomore Ian Hollick was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks while Hood and freshman Derek Pilkington were 2-for-4 with a walk. Hood also had two doubles and three RBI.

Junior Jay Russell led the Red team, going 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored. Stovall was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, a walk and three runs scored. Barba went 2-for-4 with a triple, one run scored and five RBI.
