Postgame Quotes

New Mexico head coach Don Flanagan

(opening statement): "It almost looked like we were the away team. It took us so long to get acclimated. I think the speed of the game bothered us. We weren't accustomed to how fast they were. Their 3-pt. shooter getting off to such a quick start really helped them. Once they got that lead, it took us a long time to battle back. Again in the second half, the first four minutes, they just started blowing us away again. We need to improve that time of the game. We didn't run our offense particularly well. I thought we should've been a little more structured. I didn't think they could guard us inside. Defensively, they were tough to defend. They had some excellent shooters and their point guard is excellent. Their post player went 11-15 and we tried everything on her. She was very difficult to defend.

(on the play of Dionne Marsh): "Dionne had a pretty good game, but I've seen her play better. She had 23 points, so we're thankful for that, but she started slowly. She got hit in the eye and that bothered her a little bit. She was quicker than their post players, and she was capable of beating them inside.

Oklahoma head coach Sherri Coale

(opening statement)"We know a lot more about our basketball team than we did when we came in here. (It was) a really scrappy, talented New Mexico team. I thought they came out and played with a great deal of poise. We opened the game with a big run and they were not affected by it. They just came back, chipped away and made some really tough shots. They really worked us over on the boards in the first half. Even though we had a bit of a rebounding edge going in at halftime, they were outworking us for position. We've got to do a better job of that. We can't just rely on our size."

(on the 10-0 opening run): "We've already created quite a confidence in our ability to come out of the chute. We hit big time shots - deep threes - shots Erin Higgins makes all the time. But still, in this environment, to come out and nail those shots early was huge and it quieted the crowd for a little bit."
