ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico softball dropped both games of a doubleheader Saturday against Colorado State to conclude the season. The Lobos fell in eight innings in game one, 6-5, and in game two, 11-0 in five innings. UNM finished the year with a 20-25 overall record and 9-11 in the Mountain West Conference. CSU improved to 30-28 on the year and 9-10 in league play.
UNM plated five runs in game one on nine hits but couldn't overcome four homeruns by the Rams. The Lobos and CSU were tied at one five innings but that's when both teams came alive offensively. The Rams scored three runs in the sixth but were answered by a three spot from UNM. CSU took the lead in the seventh with a run but UNM forced extra innings with run in the bottom of the inning. The Rams clinched the game with a solo homerun in the eighth.
CSU cruised to an 11-0 victory in game two in five innings. The Rams shutout the Lobos and held UNM to only four hits including a double by senior Jennifer Deitrich. CSU scored a run in the first inning, two in the third and put the game away in the final two innings. The Rams exploded for three runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to reach the run-rule limit.
UNM senior Caley Peterson took the loss in both games and falls to 1-9 overall. Peterson pitched 1 2/3 innings in game one and 4 1/3 in the second game.
