Albuquerque, N.M.- The University of New Mexico women's tennis team take their first road trip of the fall as they travel to Colorado Springs, Colo. for the Falcon Fall Invitational. Action will begin on Friday and run through Sunday. Play will begin at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday.
"This is our first trip as a team and it will be a great test for us to come together in a more significant way," head coach Roy Cañada said. "We have worked hard this week and we are ready to compete hard."
Players from Air Force, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Harvard, Illinois State, Utah, Northern Colorado, Oregon and Wyoming will all be stepping on the court.
Last For UNM The Lobos concluded their first fall tournament on Sept. 27. Freshman Laura Richardson got her first win over Jane Huh from Arizona 6-3, 6-1. New Mexico played a total of 31 singles matches and 11 doubles matches over the course of the weekend. The young team gained some valuable experience.
Scouting the Opponents New Mexico is playing four ranked teams in No. 61 Colorado, No. 39 Denver, No. 63 Utah and No. 71 Oregon. The Lobos will get a chance to size up their spring schedule competition as they face four conference opponents in Air Force, Utah Colorado State and Wyoming.
"There will be 11 teams out there and we will see some familiar faces from our conference which will give us a great taste for what to expect next spring," Cañada said.
Lobos Fall Schedule The Lobos will play in five fall meets. They started out at home with the UNM Fall Invite and are ending at home with the SW Collegiate Invite (Oct. 23-25). New Mexico is traveling to Colorado Springs, Colo. for the Falcon Fall Invite this weekend and then to Las Vegas for the ITA Mountain Region (Oct. 14-18). The Lobos will finish up their road trip in Kansas City, Mo. with the Jayhawk Invitational Oct. 23-25.
