Albuquerque, N.M. -There is one sight that the audience never fails to cheer for: the fist pump. That action was certainly being used frequently on all the courts tonight as the Lobos washed away the Islanders 7-0 at the Linda Estes Tennis Complex.
The dual match started in favor of UNM as the Lobos won all three doubles matches.
Phil Anderson and Jadon Phillips defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Tave/Westmoreland 8-6. Their teammates Ben Dunbar and Conor Berg defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Pavlov/Robinson only giving up two games in the process finishing the match 8-2. Carl Ho and James Hignett were the first to finish defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Maingot/Jordao with a score of 8-1.
"Doubles is always fun and to get the sweep, it really sends a message that we are here to play and we play hard and we play it well," Jadon Phillips said.
The Lobos certainly did send a message, as the Lobos paved their way into victory winning all six of their singles matches while at the same time not losing a set.
Jadon Phillips defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Aurelien Tave with a score of 6-2, 6-4.
Ben Dunbar beat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Gergo Weidinger with a score of 6-0, 6-2.
Phil Anderson won the match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Matt Westmoreland with a score of 6-1, 6-2.
Conor Berg pulled it out in the first set against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Fernando Llorens winning the set 7-5. He did not let it get as close in the second set winning the match 7-5, 6-2.
Mads Hegelund did not give up a single game defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Andrew Maingot with a score of 6-0, 6-0.
The Lobos started the match strong and stayed that way right to the very end.
"I feel like we played significantly better than we did two nights ago. We had a match under our belt, and I feel like the guys were a little bit more at ease and a little bit more relaxed and caught to the speed of a dual match. I think everyone played a lot better in my opinion. I think we are in pretty good shape right now," Head Coach Alan Dils said.
The Lobos will play their first tournament of the spring season traveling to Gainsville, Florida to participate in the ITA Indoor Playoff on January 28, 2012.
