ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico men's and women's tennis teams were selected to take part in the ITA National Indoor Playoffs draft. The new draft allowed teams to select where and who they will play in the first two rounds of competition on Jan. 30- Feb. 1, 2009. This is the first year for the draft after the pool grew from 16 teams to 64 for the 2008-09 season. The men's team will travel to Columbus, Ohio for their first two matches. The women's team travels to Evanston, Ill., for their first two matches.

The Lobo men's season ended when TCU edged them 4-3 in the Mountain West Conference championship. They finished the 2007-08 campaign with a record of 20-8 and a national ranking of No. 41. New Mexico will face Virginia Tech in the first round on Jan 30. The Hokies finished with a 16-9 mark and No. 28 Nationally after falling in the second round of the NCAA Championship. Host Ohio State will take on Stetson in the first round. The Buckeyes, ranked No. 3, ended 35-2 with a loss in a quarterfinal match at the NCAA Tournament. The Hatters finished with a 21-5 mark and ranked No. 61.

The Lobos women finished the 2007-08 season with a national ranking of No. 51 and a record of 15-9. They will take on Northwestern on Jan. 30. The Wildcats finished with a 29-2 mark and a No. 2 ranking after falling in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship. Tulsa and Washington State will battle in the other first round match. The Hurricanes were 22-6 mark and ranked No. 34, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Cougars' season ended in the first round of the NCAA Championship with a final mark of 16-9 and ranking at No. 43.

Lobo women's head coach Kathy Kolankiewicz said, "We are excited to be going to Northwestern because they have six very nice indoor courts. It will be very tough, exciting competition with three teams all ranked ahead of us."

The ITA National Indoor Tournament will be held at 15 sites with four teams per site. The No. 1 and No. 4 teams play each other while the No. 2 and No. 3 teams battle on Jan. 30. The winners and losers of the two matches will play on Feb. 1. The 15 teams that win two matches will advance to play on Feb. 13-16 in Chicago.
