ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - University of New Mexico head track and field coach Matt Henry and associate head coach Mark Henry announced today that they have signed another talented athlete for the 2005 season, inking sprinter Tabitha Shaw to national letter of intent. Mark Henry said he expects the Austin (Texas) Akins High School standout to bolster a young, improving women's sprint corps next year. Shaw is the fifth woman (first sprinter) to sign with the Lobos this fall.

"I think Tabitha will help us real quick in both relays," said Henry. "We're adding a solid short sprinter who I think will be a big part of what's developing into a pretty good group of sprinters."

Henry noted that Shaw was a qualifier for the elite Texas 5A state track meet and has clocked times of 11.65 in the 100 and 24.60 in the 200 meters. Shaw competed in Albuquerque last summer, running the lead leg for the Texas high school 4x100-meter "D" team, which placed ninth overall.
