ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico volleyball team pulled out another exciting 3-2 win on Saturday to win the 2009 MCM Elegante Lobo Classic. The Lobos beat UC Santa Barbara (2-1) 25-17, 19-25, 25-18, 19-25, 15-13 to improve to 3-0 on the season. Senior Anna Lehne was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by teammates Allison Buck and Jade Michaelsen.
"Anna (Lehne) was terrific all weekend," said Lobo head coach Jeff Nelson. "She really stepped up in the Portland State match this afternoon to put us in contention for the tournament championship."
While Lehne stepped up in the PSU match, it was Lisa Meeter and Ashley Rhoades that made a difference against UCSB. In the deciding set, Meeter had three of her team-high 13 kills while Rhoades picked up her fourth solo block of the match on the match-winner. Rhoades ended up with nine kills and 10 total blocks, a career mark for the sophomore from Rio Rancho, N.M.
The Lobos return to action on Friday, Sept. 4, against American University in the first round of the Nike Portland Invitational.
