ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--University of New Mexico head women's soccer coach Kit Vela has announced the Lobos' 2009 schedule. Vela and her staff have assembled another high quality schedule featuring powerhouses from the nation's top conferences including three teams which were featured in the 2008 NCAA Women's College Cup. The 2009 schedule also features nine chances for Lobo fans to see the Cherry and Silver on their home turf at the UNM Soccer Stadium.

"We are real happy to being playing this schedule," said Vela. "This schedule will be a great challenge for us. We are putting ourselves in a different environment that will prepare us for whatever team we face on the way to a conference championship. We want to put our team in situations where they are challenged to prepare for our conference schedule."

The season kicks off with a friendly exhibition with the Cherry - Silver Intersquad on Aug. 16. The Lobos will welcome Idaho State to Albuquerque on Aug 21 for the season opener at 7:00 p.m. MT.

The Lobos will hit the road for the first of two tournaments when they travel to Las Vegas, Nev., for a tournament hosted by UNLV. On Aug. 28, the Lobos will take on Cal-State Bakersfield and Illinois State on Aug. 30. The following weekend New Mexico will head up to 7,000 feet for the 9th Annual Mountain Classic hosted by Northern Arizona. The Lobos' first opponent will be Oakland on Sept. 4 followed by Iowa on Sept. 6.

New Mexico returns home to host the Nike Classic from Sept. 11-13 at the UNM Soccer Stadium. The Lobos battle Cal-State Northridge on Sept. 11 and Tulsa on Sept. 13.

A trip to the Lone Star State is next for the Lobos as they take on Rice on Sept. 18 and Texas, a 2008 NCAA Women's College Cup second round participant, on Sept. 20.

The Lobos kickoff a five-match home stand with a rare Wednesday game with Northern Colorado on Sept. 23 and have a Friday night date with Northern Arizona, a 2008 Women's College Cup participant and Big Sky Conference Champion, on Sept. 25.

Mountain West Conference play begins at home against TCU on Oct. 3. The Lobos conclude the five-match home stand against Wyoming on Oct. 8 and Air Force on Oct. 10.

The Lobos hit the road for a four-match road trip starting on Oct. 15 against 2008 NCAA Women's College Cup second round participant and 2008 MWC Champion, BYU and Utah on Oct. 17. New Mexico will then face San Diego State on Oct. 24 followed by a non-conference match against Cal-State Fullerton on Oct. 25.

New Mexico finishes the regular season at home on Halloween against UNLV.

The top six seeds in the MWC will advance to the MWC Tournament from Nov. 4-7 in Provo, Utah.
