Colorado Springs, Colo. - Nicholas Kipruto was honored for the second time this year as the Mountain West Cross Country Athlete of the Week, announced league officials on Tuesday. He was joined by TCU junior Agnes Kemboi on the women's side. Kipruto also earned the honor back on September 6.
Kipruto, from Kericho, Kenya, placed seventh at the Adidas/Notre Dame Invitational last weekend, finishing the five-mile course in 24:12.0. It marked the fifth time in his last seven races that Kipruto has finished in the top 10, and the sixth time in the last seven events that he has finished within the top 20 competitors. Kipruto's time was 13 seconds off the lead.
Hailing from Eldoret, Kenya, Kemboi earned runner-up honors at the Cowboy Jamboree last Saturday in Stillwater, Okla., covering the 5K course in 17:11.62. That mark is a personal-best time for Kemboi and ranks as the fastest 5K time in the Mountain West this season. By placing second overall at the OSU Cross Country Course, Kemboi recorded the Horned Frogs' top finish on the women's side of the event since Gladys Keitany won the Cowboy Jamboree in 2000.
