HONOLULU, Hawaii - The University of New Mexico men's golf team held on to win the 21-team John Burns Intercollegiate by two-strokes over UNLV and has now opened the spring season with two championships. The Lobos shot a final round 4-under par 284 and finished the tournament at 31-under (274-275-284=833) on the par-72, 6,917 yard, Leilehua Golf Course.
Individually, New Mexico was led by junior Spencer Levin who finished tied for second at 13-under par (65-67-71=203). Levin who entered the final round tied for the lead shot a 1-under par 71 in the final round and fell seven-strokes short of Ryan Moore of UNLV who shot a final round 8-under par 64 to finish 20-under par (67-65-64=196).
Other Lobo results, were sophomore Charlie Beljan tied for 12th at 8-under par (70-66-72=208), senior Miguel Griego was 5-undr par (68-73-70=211) tied for 19th, junior Jay Choi was tied for 28th at 3-under par (71-69-73=213) and Mark Anderson tied for 46th at even par (72-73-71-216). Senior Madalitso Muthiya playing as an individual finished tied for 58th at 2-over par (73-71-74=218).
New Mexico will return to the golf course on March 11-13 in Houston, Texas for the Hall of Fame Invitational.
