LUBBOCK, Texas - The New Mexico softball team (14-7) won 2-1 over Columbia (0-1) in the opening game of the Mutual of Omaha Lady Raider Classic at Rocky Johnson Field. The Lobos are on a five game winning streak.

Columbia got on the board first as Kimberly Krisman singled up the middle to score Stephanie Reeder. Freshman Robyn Hutson got the run back for the Lobos, scoring as senior Sabrina Sandberg reached on an error by Reeder.

Junior Cassie Chavez scored the game winning run in the third off of sophomore Iraina Ogas' single to right field.

Junior Ashley Perkins started the game, throwing two innings, allowing one run. The teams then sat through a 45 minute rain delay. Sophomore Iraina Ogas came out to pitch following the delay. Ogas hurled five innings, giving up no hits or runs and striking out five.

Junior Cassie Chavez led the Lobo offense going 3-3 with two doubles and one run scored. Freshman Robyn Hutson was 1-1 with one run scored.

Game two against Texas Tech was postponed due to rain and cold weather. It will be made up tomorrow at noon CST. The Lobos will also play Columbia at 4 p.m. and Texas Tech again at 6 p.m.
