SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The New Mexico baseball team fell to Utah, 10-2, Saturday afternoon at Ute Field in the series finale. UNM still won two of three games to win the series, however, and now stands at 8-4 in the Mountain West (12-19-1 overall).
The Utes scored two runs in the second to take a 2-0 lead on a Tyler Kay two-run single. UNM trimmed the margin to 2-1 on a Matt Young sacrifice fly in the third.
Utah (8-19, 3-7 MWC) then used a six-run fourth inning to pull away from the Lobos in building an 8-1 lead. Eric Chevalier and Matt Ciaramella each hit two-run homers in the inning for the Utes.
The Utes added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to make it 10-2.
UNM could only manage six hits off of Ute starter Ben Buck, who fired a complete game for his first win of the season (1-1). Young and Mader each collected two hits while Murray and Ryan Barba tallied one.
Lobo starter Cooper Eddy (2-3) took the loss, surrendering eight runs, six earned, on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings of action.
New Mexico returns to action next weekend (April 16-18) to face Air Force in a three-game series at Colorado Springs, Colo.
