ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--After a devastating loss to #40 BYU 5-2 only four days ago, the Lobos took that defeat to heart as they faced off against Arizona at home. They came out strong and finished strong defeating the Wildcats 7-0.
The Lobos played their first match since the fall season outside in beautiful Spring Break weather.
After the Lobos took the lead 1-0, the match continued in UNM's favor as the doubles momentum just kept rolling over into singles.
At number one singles, Jadon Phillips took both sets against Andre Vidaller defeating him with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
Conor Berg gave up only three games defeating Mario Urquidi 6-1, 6-2 at the number three spot.
At number four singles, Samir Iftikhar advanced his record to 9-4 defeating Carlos Bermudez with a score of 6-4, 6-1.
Mads Hegelund is now 8-2 in dual matches defeating Robin Chou at number six singles. The final match score was UNM 6-2, 6-1.
"It was a great job by the team today against a dangerous Arizona team. We have played a lot of matches to this point and we now have bit of rest ahead of us," Head Coach Alan Dils. "The guys have done a good job to this point of the season and have earned a few days off. It is a lot more fun to have a few rest days after a good win."
The Lobos will have some more days off as their next match will not be until March 30, 2012 against Northern Arizona at home.
