Resaland Claims 3rd in Classical; Lobos Finish 4th at DU Invite

DU Invite - Final Results Get Acrobat Reader

MINTURN, Colo. -- Mats Rudin Resaland led University of New Mexico Nordic skiers on Sunday in Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association action at the University of Denver Invite in Minturn, Colo. Resaland claimed an RMISA career-high third place in the men's 15K mass start classical race while the Lobos finished fourth overall at the DU Invite.

Joanne Reid won the women's 10K race while Rune Malo Oedegaard took the top spot on the men's side. Both skiers are from the University of Colorado and helped the Buffaloes pull ahead of Denver in the final day of competition and take the meet with 852 points. It's the second RMISA meet victory for CU as they won their home meet last weekend.

DU sat in first place for the other three days of competition of its home meet, but finished second with a score of 833. Utah had solid performances from their men and women on Sunday and edged out the Lobos, finishing in third with 796 points to 754 by UNM. Alaska Anchorage rounded out the top five with 704 points.

Resaland, a sophomore newcomer from Kongsberg, Norway, posted a time of 39:59.9 and scored 44 points for UNM in reaching the podium.

Next in for the men was Christian Otto, posting a time of 43:15.7 and claiming 19th. Eivind Odden Solberg was the final finisher for the Lobo men, placing 25th with a time of 45:19.7.

On the women's side, Linn Håvelsrud Klaesson was first in for New Mexico. She placed sixth with a time of 32:36.0. Anni Nord and Clara Chauvet rounded out the Lobos' top three as Nord took 14th (33:23.9) and Chauvet finished 15th (33:49.1).

Ingrid Leask and Anita Kirvesniemi finished 24th and 26th, respectively.

The Lobos do not have another competition until the University of New Mexico Invitational which starts Feb. 1-2. The meet begins with Nordic events and will be held at the Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe Area in Red River, N.M. The Alpine team is also competition-free until NorAm events in Vail, Colo., set for Jan. 31-Feb. 5. The Alpine portion of the UNM Invite is slated for Feb. 9-10 at Red River Ski Area in Red River, N.M.
