The University of New Mexico men's golf team finished the first round of the 2008 John Burns Intercollegiate in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, in 16th place today. The Lobos shot a 2-over 290 at the par-72 Leilehua Course and were led by junior Steve Saunders' 1-under 71 in the opening round.

Saunders is tied for 30th in the individual race and is the only Lobo to shoot par or better today. No. 15 Auburn, Arizona and San Diego State are all tied for first place with a 10-under 278. Auburn's Jay Moseley, Arizona's Tarquin Macmanus and San Diego State's Johan Carlsson all shot 66's in the first round to tie for the individual lead.
