Notre Dame, Ind.- The University of New Mexico swimming and diving team completed its first day at the Notre Dame Invite with top finishes from sophomore Robyn Miller and divers Becca Barras and Tracey Berghian. Over the next two days the squad will continue to match up against 14 non-conference schools.
Robyn Miller had the most successful Lobo swimming performance of the day. In the 500-yard free she had a preliminary finish of second (5:02.51). In the finals of the 500-yard free Miller placed third in a time of 4:59.86.
Crystal Weiland had the top final finish for New Mexico in the 200 IM (ninth place) with a time of 2:10.37.
Kelsey Leckovic led the way for the Lobos in the 50-yard free (15th place) with a time of 25.08.
UNM also competed in two relay events, the first of which was the 200-yard free relay. The UNM 'A' team captured 12th place (1:40.7) while the 'B' team finished in 20th place (1:43.26). In the 400-yard medley relay, the UNM 'A' team finished in 16th place (4:05.27) and the 'B' team finished in 21st place (4:09.92).
Lobo divers, Barras and Berghian had solid performances on the first day of the meet. Barras placed second on the 3-meter with a final score of 473.20. Berghian finished behind Barras, in third, with a score of 448.
The Notre Dame Invite continues Friday Dec. 5 with preliminaries at 10:00 a.m. (EST), followed by the finals at 6:30 p.m. (EST). For complete results go to www.und.com.
