LAS VEGAS --- UNLV scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to down UNM softball, 7-5, Sunday in game one of a doubleheader held at Eller Media Stadium. The Lobos had six hits in the game including two by sophomore Analise Rubalcava. UNM is 18-18 overall and 7-4 in the Mountain West Conference. UNLV goes to 33-24 on the year and 8-5 in league play.
The Lobos were the home team because it was a makeup for an earlier game that was cancelled due to weather in the Albuquerque area. UNM broke the scoreless game in the bottom of the second inning with a run on an RBI single by catcher Erin Brandow. Brandow's infield single to short allowed senior Becky Dover to score.
UNM added two more runs in the fourth after Dover walked, junior Ashley Allen's RBI double and a sacrifice bunt by Brandow.
UNLV led off the fourth inning with four consecutive singles resulting in two runs.
The Lobos answered with two more runs in the fifth on a two-run homer by sophomore Analise Rubalcava. Rubalcava clubbed her sixth round tripper of the year and gave UNM a 5-2 lead heading
The Rebels hit two home runs in the top of the seventh to rally for the win. Jaci Hull blasted a two-run homer to right field and Kendall Fearn had a three-run shot to center field.
Rubalcava was 2-for-4 for UNM with a run and two RBI, while Allen was 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Brandow was 1-for-1 with two RBI.
Junior Kelly Ninemire (12-10) takes the loss for UNM after facing four batters allowing three runs on three hits. Senior Caley Peterson started the game for the Lobos and went 6 2/3 innings giving up four runs on eight hits.
Christie Robinson (12-5) gets the win for UNLV after pitching a complete game. Robinson allowed five runs on six hits.
Game two of the doubleheader started at 2:40 p.m. PT.
