COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The New Mexico women's soccer team (2-11-4, 1-4-1 MWC) came up short in its final game of the regular season. The Lobos fell to Michigan State (12-7) 2-0 at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Michigan State dominated much of the first half, putting the Lobos in a 2-0 hole. The Spartans' Tiffany Laskowski scored both goals, one at the 22:39 mark and the other just into the 33rd minute. Both goals were assisted by both Emma Harris and Erin Konheim.
The Spartans outshot the Lobos 13-8 in the first and held a 4-0 corner kick advantage heading into the half.
New Mexico battled back hard in the second period and designated the flow of play but again could not get a goal. The Lobos outshot Michigan State 4-2 in the second but the Spartans increased their corner kick total to 6-0 for the game.
Sophomore forward Nicole Pitcock led the New Mexico offense with three of the Lobos' 12 shots. Forwards Coco D'Angelo and Kristine Sweat added two apiece. In goal, junior Kristen Winters allowed two goals and made seven saves on 15 shots.
New Mexico will compete in the Mountain West Conference Tournament hosted by Utah on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in Salt Lake City, Utah. The sixth seeded Lobos will take on the third seeded Wyoming Cowgirls.
