Academic All-America Women's Basketball Release Get Acrobat Reader

TOWSON, Md. - Senior Amanda Best was named to the 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-America Women's Basketball Teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, Thursday. The senior was named to the third-team Academic All-America Team for her success both in the classroom and on the court. Best is the only Mountain West Conference player to be named to the Academic All-America Women's Basketball Team this season.

Best is a Biology major who sports a perfect 4.0 GPA in the classroom. The senior was named to the first-team Academic All-District Team earlier in the season for the first time in her career. Best also contributes greatly to New Mexico's success on the court.

An honorable-mention All-Mountain West Conference performer last year, Best leads the Lobos in both rebounding and assists this season. Best is averaging 7.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists a game. She is also second on the team in scoring, averaging 10.7 points a game. Best ranks 19th all-time in the UNM records book for career rebounds with 563 rebounds.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
