TUCSON, Ariz. - No. 2-ranked Arizona completed its domination in the Arizona Softball Pepsi Classis behind the long ball and solid pitching from Alicia Hollowell to defeat New Mexico, 11-0, in the championship game on Sunday before a crowd of 751 at Hillenbrand Stadium.

The Cats had two home runs in two different innings to bring in most of the scoring, while Hollowell struck out 10 and tossed four innings of one-hit ball for a fourth consecutive shutout appearance. She has allowed only six hits and no runs in 22 and one-third innings pitched this year, and improved her record to 4-0. Leslie Wolfe pitched the fifth inning, striking out the side.

Back to back home runs gave UA a quick lead. Caitlin Lowe singled to lead off the UA first inning, stole second and two outs later, trotted home on Mackenzie Vandergeest's second home run of the year. A few moments later, Shelly Schultz blasted her second home run of the year to make it 3-0. After a walk, an error and another walk, Jackie Coburn stole home as part of a double steal with Kristie Fox to score an unearned run to push it to 4-0.

Vandergeest doubled to lead off the UA third, and pinch runner Betsy Wilson took third on a passed ball. Schultz walked, then Coburn socked her second home run of the year to make it 7-0. An out later, second baseman Samantha Quinterio knocked her first career home run to give UA the eight-run rule margin.

But the scoring continued, with Crystal Farley walking, pinch-hitter Allyson Von Liechtenstein getting a single, both runners moving up on a passed ball, and pinch-hitter Candace Abrams collecting a two-run single. Farley added a sacrifice fly in the fourth to drive in the Cats' last run.

Sophomore Stephanie Kennedy singled off Hollowell in the third for the Lobos only hit. Sophomore Iraina Ogas took the loss for the Lobos.

New Mexico fell to 2-3 overall. Arizona improved to 5-0 and outscored its opponents 42-3 during the weekend.

The Lobos return to action Friday when they travel to Tempe, Arizona to play in the Arizona State Fiesta Bowl. New Mexico plays Western Michigan at 8:45 a.m. and Arizona State at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, the Lobos take on Nevada at 11:30 a.m. followed by Texas A&M at 5:30 p.m. To finish the tournament on Sunday, New Mexico will play Syracuse at 8:00 a.m.
