COLORADO SPRING, Colo.--- University of New Mexico senior Roxie McFarland was named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week as announced today by the conference office. The award is her first of the season and her career. It is the third MW award of the season for the Lobos.
Hailing from Ogden, Utah, McFarland scored a late goal to help New Mexico earn a 2-1 home victory over UC Riverside on Sunday afternoon. McFarland made her only shot of the match count, launching a free kick pas the goalkeeper with 44 seconds remaining in regulation to help the Lobos snap a three-match losing streak. As a defender, McFarland and New Mexico's defense limited UC Riverside to only three shots overall (one shot on goal) in the match.
The Lobos are set to host Oklahoma at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 at the UNM Soccer Complex for STUFF THE STADIUM. All tickets are only $2 and are also valid for the men's soccer game immediately following.
